Top 100 Golf Courses in Australia - Australian Golf Digest 2016

One of the most anticipated ranking lists in recent memory, Australia's Top 100 Golf Courses 2016 has now been published by the Australian Golf Digest Magazine. As expected there was a high debut for exciting new entrant Cape Wickham Links, with the King Island wonder course shooting straight into the Top 3 despite having only been opened for a couple of months. The course finished outside Australia's Top 120 for conditioning, yet scored so highly in the design and memorability categories to finish with its nose ahead of New South Wales Golf Club in 3rd position. Given Cape Wickham's average score was less than half a point (out of 50) behind 2nd placed Kingston Heath, many expect it to climb in 2018 and beyond.

The other story from the Top Ten is the drop of Barnbougle Lost Farm from 6 to 9 owing to a slightly lower conditioning score than previous years, and the elevation of The Old Course (10th) at The National Golf Club ahead of the Moonah Course (11th), for the first time ever.

Other winners in the top half of the list included The Australian Golf Club (up 3 spots to 12th), Commonwealth (up 6 spots to 22nd), Brookwater (up 7 spots to 25th), Hamilton Island (up 6 spots to 31st), Bonville (up 9 spots to 33rd) and The Grand (up 9 spots to 35th). Both Sanctuary Cove courses also did well - Pines Course was up 7 places to 45th and Palms Course up 15 to 48th.

Among those to drop noticeably were Lake Karrinyup (down 6 to 15th), Moonah Links Legends Course (down 10 to 29th), Royal Sydney (down 8 to 32nd), The National Ocean Course (down 8 to 38th) and Grange East by Greg Norman's company (down 7 spots to 47th).
