Royal Cape Golf Club

South Africa, Western Cape, Cape Town
4.4 (5)
Designer:
Course Opened: 1906

The Royal Cape Golf Club is the oldest in South Africa, the game first being played on club premises back in 1886. A few years later the club moved sites, and again in 1905 when they settled on the current location. What made the committee choose the present home is a mystery, as apart from great views of Table Mountain, the terrain here is flat, dull and now totally cramped in by mature trees planted presumably to increase difficulty over the years.

Sadly, despite its history, the Royal Cape golf course is now quite poor. The holes offer no great appeal or challenge, the greens are simple and unappealing and the bunkering is now very tired and out of position too thanks to technological advancements which leave some to act as little more than directional tools.
