Whittington Heath Golf Club

England, West Midlands, Birmingham
5.5 (6)
Designer: Harry S. Colt
Course Opened: 1927

Whittington Heath is one of those terrific centenarians in Britain, that somehow exist in relative anonymity yet manage to charm golfers from the opening tee shot right through to the final green. The holes occupy nicely sloping heathland, with fairways cut through tall oak trees and occasionally protected by dense plantings of gorse. Like most Colt courses the bunkers are formidable and there are a couple of terrific par threes. The grounds aren’t as well maintained as at some of his better-known courses but for a fun afternoon round, and a reminder of how enjoyable understated golf can be, it comes recommended.
